Tenjaku Blended

Tenjaku, in Japanese depicts the skylark (hibari), the much-loved herald of spring in the East and West, and for this masterfully blended

whisky. Like the clear, exquisite song of a small bird, it features an agreeably pure, mellow flavor. Carefully selected unprocessed whiskies and pure, natural spring water are expertly blended to create this distinctive whisky. Aroma: Faint smoky accent. Sweet aroma, redolent of pear and dried fruit. Palate: A slightly edgy attack. Well-rounded and mellow.  Finish: Slightly spicy. A long finish with a hint of white oak and a spreading sweetness.

Hatozaki Finest

The Yonezawa family’s experimentation with distilling started over a century ago, in 1917, and has been part of their legacy ever since. In the build-up to their celebration of 100 years of spirit production, the company decided to replace their old stills with new copper twin pot-stills made by the famous Scottish company, Forsyth’s. The new facility has been designed to produce Japanese Single Malt Whisky as well as other spirits and has been named The Kaikyo Distillery after the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge that lies in front of the distillery. Proud of their heritage and provenance, the company has also shared other historical aspects of their home city, Akashi, in the Hyogo Prefecture of Japan, in the imagery and branding of their new spirits. Hatozaki Finest Japanese Whisky is a premium blend of whiskies, aged up to 12 years in barrel with a minimum malt whisky content of 40%. Light in style with a rich backbone of malt whisky character.

Yamato Small Batch

Yamato was created by Aiko Importers after learning of excess barrels of Japanese Whisky at one of the largest distilleries in the Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan, located southwest of Tokyo on the main island of Honshu. Aiko Importers was able to acquire the whisky, and under Japanese authority, develop Yamato, as an exclusive, small batch brand. The Japanese characters on the label translate to the words; “great harmony”....the perfect description for the rich whisky. According to the distillery, the Yamato is a blend of malted Scotch whisky and a distillate made from select grain grown in the Yamanashi Prefecture. The Kofu Basin, a land-locked, fertile central valley, is surrounded by many of the highest mountains in Japan including the world renowned Mt. Fuji. The mini-climate created by these geographical features and fertile soil slows the maturation of the grains imparting a unique richness of flavor. The cold winters and firey summers intensify the aging process of the whisky, imparting flavor and boldness to the blend. To maintain the natural character of the whisky, it is not chill filtered. Yamato is a blend of 3 to 8 year whisky aged in Mizunara Oak barrels.

Nikka Miyagikyo

Nikka Miyagikyo: This is a single malt from the Miyagikyo distillery, Nikka’s second distillery built in 1969. The founder Masataka Taketsuru chose this site in the mountains of Sendai to contrast with his first distillery, Yoichi, located in the coastal area. Using less peaty malt and distilled in a pot still heated by indirect steam, Miyagikyo has an elegant fruitiness and a distinctive aroma with a strong Sherry cask influence.

Nikka from the Barrel

The award-winning Nikka Whisky From The Barrel blend is absolutely full of flavour. Bottled at 51.4% ABV. The blend combines both single malt and grain whiskies from the Miyagikyo and Yoichi distilleries, which are then married in a huge variety of casks, including bourbon barrels, sherry butts and refill hogsheads. A huge depth of flavour in this stunning Japanese whisky. We can't recommend this enough.

Taketsuru Pure Malt

This is an expression launched in 2020, with a refined formula and a new label design to represent the brand. While remaining a smooth and well-balanced blended malt, the formula further showcases an exquisite balance between elegant softness and deep complexity along with rich mouthfeel and smokiness.

Nikka Coffey Grain

Nikka operates two Coffey stills (named after its inventor Aeneas Coffey) within the Miyagikyo distillery for the elaboration of its grain whiskies. Imported from Scotland in 1963, these old stills yield a distillate with more flavor and depth than modern column stills, imparting a distinct character that defines the house blends. This unique bottling showcases the innovative spirit of Nikka.

Makoto 23Y Single Grain

This Single grain whisky, aged 23 years in ex-bourbon casks, from the Kumesen Distillery in Okinawa Japan. Expect notes of ginger, spice, terrific woody notes, and a nice distant buttery caramel that comes through to the middle and end. Dark chocolate touches of cinnamon, some hard lemon candy, and melted caramel sweetness. The finish is heavy in sweetness, with lasting notes of licorice (those same notes that started as dark chocolate). Makoto, translates as honesty. This is the second expression to the Bushido series and another single grain whisky, spending 23 years in ex-bourbon casks as opposed to 17, delivering an even more profound depth of complexity.

Hibiki 21Y

Selected as the best blended whisky in the world at the World Whisky Awards 2017. This comes as no surprise to us at dekantā, as the Hibiki has been awarded every year at the WWA since 2009, and is, in our view, a work of pure genius. The judges described it as being “Elegant, sweet and complex. This whisky is full of dried fruit, orange peel, strawberry jam, and baked apple from start to finish. Smooth, subtle and fairly short.”We agree and we are sure you will, too!
